Lando Norris Edges Out Oscar Piastri in Sao Paulo Practice Session
The British driver has outscored Oscar Piastri at each of the previous five race weekends.
Lando Norris just pipped team-mate and championship contender Oscar Piastri for the top spot in the closing stages of the practice session at the Brazilian Grand Prix.
Norris, who grabbed the championship lead from his teammate by a single point after his victory in Mexico City recently, topped the Melbourne-born driver by a tiny margin of 0.023secs.
Earlier in the session, Piastri had been the quickest of the McLaren pair during the running before sprint qualifying scheduled for 18:30 GMT.
The Red Bull star, the only other driver in realistic title contention, sitting with a 36-point deficit behind Norris, finished in 17th position as his Red Bull team ran a unique setup.
Verstappen's team-mate the Japanese driver was the sole competitor to go off, albeit lightly, when he lost control at corner four during the early running.
Tsunoda spun out over the exit kerbs before sliding over the escape zone, and was fortunate to get away with just a slight brush of the barrier.
The Ferrari of the seven-time champion also had a spin, at the conclusion of the practice, spinning around through the quick descending corner leading to the final corner on to the start-finish straight.
The seven-time champion ended the session in P19, just behind teammate the Monegasque driver.
The McLaren pair were significantly quicker of the rest of the field, with Nico Hulkenberg's Sauber in third, 0.619secs off Piastri's best.
Aston Martin's the Spanish driver was in fourth, with the Sauber of Bortoleto in front of Mercedes' George Russell and the Alpine of Pierre Gasly and Williams' Carlos Sainz.
